Posting on social media without a plan usually ends the same way: a burst of activity, then weeks of silence. A content calendar fixes that. It is simply a schedule of what you will post, where, and when.
Decide what you want social media to do for you. Brand awareness, website traffic, enquiries and sales each need a different mix of content.
You do not need to be everywhere. Pick the two or three platforms where your audience spends time, for example Instagram and Facebook for local businesses, or LinkedIn for B2B services.
Content pillars are the 3 to 5 themes you post about again and again. For a clothing brand they could be new arrivals, styling tips, behind the scenes, customer photos and offers. Pillars keep your feed varied but on-brand.
Use a simple spreadsheet, Google Sheets, Notion, or a scheduler tool. For each post note the date, platform, format, pillar, caption, visual and status. Plan at least two weeks ahead and leave space for trending topics.
Check which posts got the most reach, saves, shares and clicks. Do more of what works, drop what does not, and plan the next month with those lessons.
A good content calendar turns social media from a daily headache into a reliable marketing system.
